Coaching

Writing can be hard and lonely work. Writing a book is a marathon. Writing a book proposal is like you’ve shown up to the starting line and been told, “Before you begin, there’s this pre-marathon you have to run. Good luck.” And no one’s given you a map to this marathon, and if you’re not careful you could end up off the designated route, running through brambles, cursing and weeping.

No matter where you are in your writing journey, the question remains: How do you get through it? How do you find your way to the finish line?

What you need is a coach: someone to show you the path forward, gently correct you when you’ve gone off course, and cheer you on when you’re flagging.

I can help you if you’re looking to jumpstart your writing after time away; if you’re looking for accountability and coaching; if you have a book idea but no clue how to turn that into a proposal; if you have a proposal but no clue what needs to be done to get it out the door; if you’re looking for help finding an agent; if you have a manuscript that needs editing. My clients’ projects range from short stories to self-help to memoir and research-driven works. Contact me for rates and more information.

TESTIMONIALS

Because of Alice, I ended up turning in the tightest manuscript I’ve ever submitted. For all you writers out there: if you’re looking for someone to help you put together a book proposal, brainstorm book ideas, or like me, you just need help getting a book out the door, Alice is your gal.

I needed to tell you immediately how much I appreciate your skill, your attention, and your kindness as a teacher AND a person. Thank you for being a positive force in my life.

I’m so relieved that I’ve had Alice as my book proposal ‘midwife.’ I had tried and failed to complete a proposal on several occasions, but always stalled out when I reached an unfamiliar or difficult task. Working with Alice would be ideal for people who aren’t sure where to start, like me, but would also be equally helpful for experienced writers who crave accountability and well-focused feedback. That’s because Alice’s edits are fair and unflinching. If something isn’t working, she won’t hesitate to tell you. Most editors might stop there, but Alice honeys the cup of that bitter medicine with a dose of warmth and empathy, offers helpful suggestions for how to improve rough spots, and gives genuine and enthusiastic praise for the good parts.

It is 100,000% your kick in the pants about getting this done in a timely way that has me making progress here. I could have (and have for a long time) diddled around with things for eons, and made myself believe I had too much going on, it wasn’t a good time, I need more time, etc. I am grateful for your nudge.
